Britax Frontier Booster Car Seat

Product Description

Customer Buzz
I've had the Britax Roundabout, Companion, and Boulevard. The Companion chest fastener was kind of chintzy, but otherwise all three lived up to the Britax reputation - safe, comfy, well made, easy to use and easy to install.

Not the Frontier. It is not well made - in two months, the mesh area in the middle of the seat cover is already starting to look a bit ratty, because it snags on my daughter's shoes. I hope Britax will redesign the cover to be like those on its other models. (And send past customers one for free!)

It is also not easy to use. The straps twist up constantly, and I am getting tired of having to take the time to straighten them out while two impatient children fret in the chilly Chicago winter.

That last flaw compromises the seat's safety - what if I don't notice the straps are twisted when I buckle my daughter in one morning?

What a disappointment. I guess the rule that you shouldn't buy a new model of car in its first year also applies to car seats.

My son is large for a 2 year old so this seat was perfect. he loves the arm rest and the cup holder. we had originally purchased the recardo 5 point harness seat but found it snug fit for our son, even though the seat was good up to 80 pounds. we would recommend the frontier.

Customer Buzz
A little hard to install, but we were prepared for that based upon reviews.
Only complaint is that the 5point harness isn't as easy to put on (it twists easily under the shoulder pads and it's more work getting our daughter in and out. We had the Britax Roundabout and it was much easier to buckle her in and get her out of that 5point harness. But other than that, she loves the pink color and cup holders and she seems very comfotable. The seat seems to be very safe and that was our biggest concern.

Not knowing any better, we inadvertently purchased a booster seat that you just placed in the seat of the vehicle and then strapped the child in with the vehicle's seat belt. What a mistake! From the beginning, my husband wasn't real happy with it because of the way the booster seat would move around and the way our son could scoot himself down in the seat and sometimes put the shoulder strap under his arm. We never really felt like he was properly seated in it. When someone emailed us a video showing the dangers of a booster seat, such as ours, that isn't tethered in like a car seat with a 5-point harness system, we were convinced and immediately purchased this booster seat. This booster seat is well worth every penny! It may take some work getting it strapped in the seat of the vehicle correctly, but once it's in the right way, it doesn't budge! And the five-point harness system gives us the peace of knowing that our son is securely in the seat and not able to move around. Yet at the same time, it's very comfortable and he has no problem sleeping in it without his head flopping around! We're thrilled with this seat!!!

We have owned the Britax Roundabout, Marathon and now the Frontier and once again, could not be happier with the Britax product.

As others have stated READ THE MANUAL before installing the seat. We are currently using the seat in Harness Mode in the LATCH position and the install was very quick and the fit is very tight, "rock solid".

The harness height adjuster is great as it just slides up and down - no need to remove the straps thru the carseat cover. The LATCH stores nicely in the seat as does the versa tether when not in use.

I like the True Side Impact Protection of the Frontier versus the Marathon, Roundabout, Regent, etc. only have Side Impact Protection (not the extra "wings").

The only "con" I would say is that I am a little worried that the fabric will easily stain on these seats compared to the fabric of the other Britax seats we have owned. The fabric is more like that which you find a "booster" seat than that of the typical convertible carseat which is to be expected I guess given this is a combo seat. It is rougher and pulled much more tightly to the seat.

I would highly recommend this seat to anyone who wants to keep their child in a harness for a longer period of time. Our child is very tall for his age so outgrew the Marathon carseat (max of 65 lbs) prior to even reaching 40 lbs. The Frontier is a great choice for children in similar situations. And it is great b/c it will literally grow with your child.

Customer Buzz
I bought a Britax because of all the talk about how safe it is, and while that may be true, I'm not overly impressed. My main complaint is that the straps twist ALL THE TIME even with the big plastic things that are supposed to help that problem. My other complaint is that the cover is itchy and it irritates my daughter's skin - living in a warm climate, she's in shorts or a skirt 90% of the time, so her skin is in contact with it a lot. It doesn't sit very high, so she has a hard time seeing out the windows. We have a Graco rear/forward facing convertable seat for my son and we LOVE it... I wish I had done my homework before purchasing this Britax because Graco makes a comparable version for so much less.

Customer Buzz
We love this car seat. we upgraded from a graco booster when we realized that 40lbs is really still to early for a booster. It fits so tightly in our Kia Rhondo that the woman at the car seat cheaking place couldn't even get it out of the car. It is big and a little heavy, but still fits nicely in our midsizde car. My daughter finds it very comfortable and likes it because she can see out of the windows better than in her graco. My daughter weighs 32lbs and it looks to me like she will fit in it for years to come. The extra long experation date is a nice benifit too. If I had been more aware when she was a baby I wouold have purchased a Britax convertable seat which really are made to grow with your child, but I am glad that we found this one. If you are looking for a forward facing booster and your child weighs over 30lbs this is a great choice. I feel very comfortable that my daughter is in the safest seat we can buy. Worth the extra money.

Customer Buzz
Was worried that it would be too big, too heavy, too difficult to install - it wasn't any of those things. Easy to intall with latch system and fits perfectly. 3 yr old says it's very comfortable - we both love the cupholder and the moveable arm rests. So much easier to get her in and out of this compared to her old car seat.

Customer Buzz
I am very happy with this car seat. I wanted to buy the best and safest seat I could find, and this really is an excellent seat. It is comfortable for my girls and really easy to install. In fact it is easier than the infant seat and the Britax roundabout that we had.

Customer Buzz
Excellent car seat. One of the safest out there. The reason I didn't give it 5 stars is that the bucklehead attachment in the front could have allowed for more leg room. My daughter is not even 5 yet and it's kind of tight even though the strap is in its widest position ( there are 3 positions on the bottom to fit it through)
